The Berkeley College New York men's soccer team saw its unbeaten streak reach seven matches on Wednesday afternoon as the Knights defeated the Warriors of Vaughn College by a score of 4-2 in a contest played at the No. 10 field at Randall's Island. With the victory, Berkeley is now 7-3-1 on the season (5-0-1 HVIAC), while Vaughn fell to 4-4 on the year (4-3 league play).
For the second consecutive match, the Knights battled back from a one-goal deficit at the half to claim victory. In this conference tilt, the game stayed scoreless through the opening 41 minutes before a flurry of goals were scored in the latter stages of the session. At the 42:00 mark, the Warriors' Mohammed Aladarous would score an unassisted goal to put his team up 1-0. A minute later, Knights standout Meshema Charles would notch a goal to even the game at a goal apiece.
40 seconds after that, though, Vaughn College's Azzeddine Sekkat would blast a ball home from the midfield circle to catapult his team to a 2-1 advantage. That would be the score as the teams broke for halftime.
In the second half – a tally by Matthew Perreira (headed in off of a corner cross from Marcos Leon at 50:00) – and consecutive goals by Charles at 54:00 (from Guzman) and 70:00 (unassisted), respectively, put the Knights ahead by the score of 4-2. That score would remain unchanged for the final 20 minutes of action, as Berkeley College held on for another come-from-behind victory.
The Knights dominated the shots category, recorded 18 compared to nine for the Warriors. The fouls were nearly even, with Vaughn College recording 10 fouls compared to eight for Berkeley.
Berkeley College's Ronnie Roman picked up the victory in net, as he made three saves while allowing two goals. John Vizhnay recorded the loss in goal for the Warriors, as he allowed four goals while making seven saves.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, as they will take on Albany College of Pharmacy in another Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match. The contest will take place at Westchester Community College, and will begin at 12:30pm.
